Korn III Remember Who You Are (2010)
The angsty rap-metal quintet Korn has emerged from obscurity to become one of the most popular new bands of the 1990s, building an underground fan base worldwide through touring, not MTV imagery.
The roots of Korn go back to 1992 in the agricultural city of Bakersfield, Calif., where James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar), Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass) and David Silveria (drums) formed a heavy metal band called LAPD. After recording one album, LAPD dropped their singer and became Creep; with the addition of vocalist Jonathan Davis -- a mortician-in-training who formerly fronted a group called Sexart -- the band moved to Huntington Beach, near L.A., and became known as Korn. Their 1994 major-label debut, Korn, took off slowly, but after nearly two years of touring with Ozzy Osbourne, 311, Marilyn Manson, KMFDM and Megadeth, Korn had sold over 700,000 copies of their LP and built a large, loyal fan base of alienated small-town teens.
Their 1996 follow-up, Life Is Peachy, produced by Ross Robinson, debuted at No. 3 and spawned the radio hit "A.D.I.D.A.S.," signaling that despite its uncompromising sound, Korn had become a force to be reckoned with. During a stint on that summer's Lolapalooza tour, Korn proved to be by far the most popular attraction; two years later they launched their own "Family Values" tour as headliner. Also in 1998 the group garnered massive publicity when a student who wore a Korn shirt to school in conservative Zeeland, Mich., was suspended because his principal believed Korn's lyrics were "obscene;" the band responded by giving away free t-shirts outside the school.

3 Doors Down sparked some hope for the musically desolate town of Escatawpa, Mississippi back in 2000, when the band's powerful rock anthem "Kryptonite" invaded the airwaves. Childhood friends Brad Arnold (vocals/drums), Matt Roberts (guitar), and Todd Harrell (bass) started out playing at friends' parties, where they would perform Bush and Metallica covers, but began to stretch their limits in 1997 with the addition of another guitarist, Chris Henderson. After recording some demos that same year, the quartet attracted a huge local following, with a crowd of nearly 2,000 attending their hometown gigs as a result of diligent self-promotion and energetic live performances. Their local popularity led to unprecedented demand for their soon-to-be national hit "Kryptonite" at Biloxi's local radio station, WCPR. Following the buzz, the band went to New York's legendary rock club CBGB to hold a showcase for major record labels, and they ended up signing a deal with Republic/Universal.

Silverchair are one of the most acclaimed and successful bands in Australian music history.
The group's members were all born in 1979 in the Newcastle surf suburb of Merewether. Singer/guitarist Daniel Johns and drummer Ben Gillies started making music together at primary school and schoolmate Chris Joannou later joined on bass. They got their big break in mid-1994 when they won a national demo competition conducted by SBS TV show "Nomad" and Triple J.
The band changed its name from Innocent Criminals to Silverchair and in August 1994 they released their winning demo - a track called "Tomorrow". The song eventually spent six weeks at #1 on the Australian singles charts and 20 weeks in the top 10. In 1995 it became the most played song of the year on U.S. modern rock radio.
Silverchair's debut album "frogstomp", recorded in just nine days in early 1995, was a raw sounding slab of alternative rock. A #1 hit in Australia and New Zealand the disc went on to become the first Australian album since INXS to hit the U.S. top 10, selling more than 2.5 million copies throughout the world. As "frogstomp" and "Tomorrow" propelled silverchair to music superstardom through 1996 the group juggled memorable performances on the roof of Radio City Music Hall and tours with Red Hot Chili Peppers alongside full time schooling commitments back home in Newcastle.

The Hush Sound is a pop quartet from Chicago, Illinois. Initially named “The Hush,” the band changed their name to “The Hush Sound” when Geffen Records objected that their name was too similar to rapper Hush. The band consists of Bob Morris on vocals and guitar, Mike Leblanc on bass and vocals, Darren Wilson on drums and vocals, and Greta Salpeter on vocals and piano. Original bassist Chris Faller left the band in October 2008 in order to pursue other musical interests and was replaced by Mike LeBlanc, who had toured with them previously on their “Dance Across the Country Tour”.
The Hush Sound was founded by Greta Salpeter and Bob Morris. The two met when Greta was in 7th grade and Bob was in 10th. In the eyes of many of their peers, Bob and Greta were deemed an “odd couple.” Bob had always been a player and performer of rock music, whereas Greta was a classical pianist.
The band’s third studio album, Goodbye Blues, was named one of the Most Anticipated Albums of 2008 according to Alternative Press Magazine. “GOODBYE BLUES” was recorded Fall 2007 at North Hollywood’s Fairfax Recordings with producer/engineer Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids, Jon Brion) at the helm. In tracks such as “Honey” and “Medicine Man”,The Hush Sound shows influence of Blues, Swing, Rock, and Folk. On January 16th, a press release said that that album would in fact be released on March 18th and that the first single, Honey, would be available for purchase on the iTunes store on February 5th.

Buckcherry exude a sleazy, sexy hard rock vibe that pays homage to classic rock ‘n’ roll tenets: decadence, excess and loose women. Formed in 1995 by frontman Josh Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson in Los Angeles, Buckcherry offer the same danger and strip-club titillation of an earlier L.A. band, Guns N’ Roses. In subsequent years, the Buckcherry lineup has fluctuated, but Todd and Nelson have remained the two permanent members.

This rock group version included Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Steven Adler. Known for their raw heavy metal sound on stage and their rebellious, wild lives off stage, Guns N' Roses exploded on the music scene in the late 1980s.
Formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, Guns N' Roses took its name from several groups that some of its members had played in previously, including L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. Rose and Stradlin had known each other from Lafayette, Indiana, where they both lived before Stradlin moved to California as a teenager. Rose came to his rebellious bad boy attitude naturally, having run into trouble numerous times growing up. Other band members shared connections, too. Stradlin and Slash had attended the same Los Angeles high school, and Slash and Adler were friends. The group was part of the L. A. heavy metal scene, which included Motley Crue and Poison. Unlike these other groups, however, Guns N' Roses avoided the popular trappings of big hair, tight pants, and heavy make-up. Gritty and grungy, they appeared to be as reckless and rambunctious as their music and made no excuses for their hard-partying ways.
Before landing a recording contract, Guns N' Roses released an EP entitled Live Like a Suicide. It contained four songs, two of which were covers of songs by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. They signed a deal with Geffen Records in 1986 and the following year released their first full album, Appetite for Destruction (1987). Initially, the album failed to make much of a splash with its first single "Welcome to the Jungle."
The second single, "Sweet Child O' Mine," showcased a softer side to Guns N' Roses. Featuring tender, sentimental lyrics, the song's video received heavy play from MTV and helped push their album up the charts. Both the song and the album reached number one in 1988. "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City" also made the charts. Guns N' Roses became one of the most popular rock acts of the time.
To capitalize on their success, G N' R Lies was released in 1989. It featured the four songs from their earlier EP and four new tracks. While the ballad, "Patience," struck a chord with listeners, many people were outraged by the lyrics in some of the other songs. With its cavalier tone about killing a woman, "Used to Love Her" has been found offensive by many. And "One in Million" seemed to go out of its way to offend nearly everyone by including derogatory comments about African Americans, immigrants, and homosexuals.

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar), Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), and Mike McCready (lead guitar). The band's current drummer is Matt Cameron, formerly of Soundgarden, who has been with the band since 1998.
Formed after the demise of Ament and Gossard's previous band Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with its debut album, Ten. One of the key bands of the grunge movement in the early 1990s, Pearl Jam was criticized early on—most notably by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain—as being a corporate cash-in on the alternative rock explosion. However, over the course of the band's career its members became noted for their refusal to adhere to traditional music industry practices, including refusing to make music videos and engaging in a much-publicized boycott of Ticketmaster. In 2006, Rolling Stone described the band as having "spent much of the past decade deliberately tearing apart their own fame."
Since its inception, the band has sold over thirty million records in the U.S., and an estimated sixty million worldwide. Pearl Jam has outlasted many of its contemporaries from the alternative rock breakthrough of the early 1990s, and is considered one of the most influential bands of the decade. Allmusic calls Pearl Jam "the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s."
